THE VALUE OF THE HOME

May 24, 2026    Craig Hudgins

In this powerful exploration of God's design for the family, we journey back to Genesis 2 where the very first human relationship was established. The message challenges us to examine whether our homes reflect God's original intention or have become cheap imitations in our fast-paced, disposable society. We're confronted with three foundational purposes for the home: companionship, spiritual growth, and being a living picture of Christ and His church. The companionship aspect reminds us that God Himself declared it was not good for Adam to be alone, and yet many of us are passing each other in hallways, too busy to truly connect with those under our own roof. The call to make our homes places of spiritual growth challenges us to reclaim our role as the primary spiritual educators of our children, not delegating this sacred responsibility entirely to Sunday school teachers. Perhaps most profoundly, we're reminded that Ephesians 5 presents marriage and family as a divine metaphor—husbands reflecting Christ's sacrificial love, wives completing and helping their husbands as the church does for Christ, and children learning honor and obedience in this sacred context. This isn't just about having a nice family; it's about our homes becoming sanctuaries where Christ is visible, where eternity is discussed, and where relationships are valued above schedules and success.
